Impostors, by Scott Westerfeld

In a wonderful triumph Scott Westerfeld has returned to the world of the Uglies series, and he is not here to disappoint.

Impostors jumps back into the world of the Uglies many years after Tally Youngblood's Mind Rain and brings us not only a whole new cast of main characters but a world completely transformed from what we used to know.

Fans of the original series will be delighted to hear that while things are different, and our much loved characters of the past are long gone, there are a few staples in this world which have remained exactly the same. From the hover boards to the complex political nature of the story Westerfeld shows us how much life there still is in this multiplex, thriving, world which had so many of us completely addicted in the past.

From the blurb;

'Frey and Rafi are inseparable. Two edges of the same knife. But Frey's very existence is a secret.

'Frey is Rafi's twin sister - and her body double. While Rafi was raised to be the perfect daughter, Frey has been taught to kill. Her only purpose is to protect her sister - to sacrifice herself if she must.

'When her father sends Frey in Rafi's place as collateral in a precarious deal, she becomes the perfect impostor. But Col, the son of a rival leader, is getting close enough to spot the killer inside her. Can Frey trust him with the truth and risk becoming her own person?'

Westerfeld could easily have skipped out on the story and characters for this novel, knowing full well that fans of the Uglies would buy it anyway, and yet he gives us an intense, character driven story that is as captivating as any of the original series.

Scattering just enough nods to the past and the stories we all know and love Westerfeld ensures to give readers what they want from this return to the universe while also creating a brand new story with rich, powerful characters, who will leave any reader wanting more.

An absolute must read Impostors set's the stage of a universe comeback unlike any we've ever had the pleasure of seeing before.
