Until The End, by Derek Landy

How will Skulduggery Pleasant save the world from it's greatest threat yet? Or will he choose Valkyrie Cain over everything else?

Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain have been part of our lives, saving the world and going on magic adventures, for 14 incredible novels. In this 15th addition to the series we finally face off against the longest standing, and most threatening, foe. The Faceless Ones.

While Until The End is a bit slow to get into, once the action starts it really runs. Past the first quarter Until The End becomes impossible to put down and will assuredly keep readers on the edge of their seats right through to the final page.

From the blurb;

'The Faceless Ones have returned to our universe.

'With the end of everything just days away - and no longer able to rely on Valkyrie Cain - Skulduggery must make allies of enemies if he's going to stand any chance of saving what's left of the world. And, just when things are looking their bleakest, they manage to get even worse, with Omen Darkly suddenly having to step up when his brother, the Chosen One, falls.

'There's a lot going on. Most of it is bad. Sorry about that.'

There is very little that can be said about Until The End without ruining it. It is fair to say that this novel ties up several loose ends, reveals the identities of a few mystery characters, kick's readers in the gut a good number of times and rewards readers with a dozen or so plot twists. It also introduces new characters, creates new story line's and is of course jam packed with Landy's trademark humor.

We finally get the answer to the question, 'but what if they were evil?', while also getting to enjoy the complex narrative of shifting character perspectives that Landy does so well. The final chapter of this book is refreshing, leaving these characters in a place from where they can go anywhere. We are left excited to see what more Landy brings to this universe and what else he puts these characters through.

We give Until The End Five Stars
